Dancing Drum!

March is music in our schools month! To kick our music filled month of March we are having a school drumming day. This hands on, interactive program will be led by a group called Dancing Drum and they are coming all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana! The students will participate in a drum circle where they will rotate around 5-6 different percussion instruments and world drums. The drums used in this program are not ones that Parkwood has access to so this will be an exciting experience for all students. In addition to learning new music skills, students will build teamwork skills and focus on Habits of Mind such as: persistence, creating and innovating, working interdependently, applying past knowledge, striving for accuracy and much more. Only five schools in Onslow County are getting this experience so it quite unique! Please make sure to send in the permission slip and participation fee by March 6 so that your child will have this opportunity!

Recorders have been ordered and should arrive soon! I have ordered about 30 extra recorders for students who have missed the purchasing deadline. They are first come, first serve and still $3.25.

There is still time to purchase a recorder for child. All fourth and fifth grade students will need a recorder and a music folder starting the month of February. Recorders are $3.25. Please send checks (written to PES) or cash by February 3, 2017 in order to reserve a recorder for your child.
